Q7(a). Lattice energy of CaCl₂ by Born–Haber cycle
Calculate the lattice energy of calcium chloride. Given: enthalpy of sublimation of Ca = 121 kJ mol⁻¹; ΔHf(CaCl₂) = −795 kJ mol⁻¹; bond enthalpy of Cl₂(g) = 242.7 kJ mol⁻¹; first and second ionization energies of Ca(g) = 589.5 and 1145 kJ mol⁻¹; electron gain enthalpy of Cl(g) = −349 kJ mol⁻¹. Show schematically the steps involved in the Born–Haber cycle.
