Question

Mention the composition of Zimmermann-Reinhardt solution. Discuss specific function of each component present in it. In which case is it used as a “Preventive solution”?

Answer in brief

The reagent contains MnSO₄, H₂SO₄ and H₃PO₄. It permits Fe²⁺ titration with KMnO₄ in chloride-containing solution by suppressing chloride oxidation and sharpening the end point.
