Q7(c). Oxidation of iron(II) by chlorine
Consider the following redox reaction: Cl₂ + 2Fe²⁺ ⇌ 2Cl⁻ + 2Fe³⁺. Elucidate the fact that an iron (II) salt is almost completely oxidised by chlorine at 298 K. [Given: E°(Cl₂/2Cl⁻) = 1.36 V; E°(Fe³⁺/Fe²⁺) = 0.77 V]
