Q7(a). Permanganate potential at pH 3
Calculate the reduction potential of the following half-cell reaction at 25 °C. MnO₄⁻ + 8H⁺ + 5e⁻ → Mn²⁺ + 4H₂O. The concentrations are [MnO₄⁻] = 0.1 M, [Mn²⁺] = 0.010 and pH = 3.0. The standard reduction potential of the reaction at 25 °C, E° = 1.51 V.
Answer in brief
The reduction potential for the specified MnO₄⁻/Mn²⁺ half-reaction is approximately +1.238 V versus SHE.
