Q12(c). Ethanol proton NMR
What does peak area indicate in a PMR spectrum? How many peaks are observed for pure ethanol and what is their area ratio? Explain with a diagram if possible.
Answer in brief
Ethanol has three proton environments with integrated areas CH₃:CH₂:OH=3:2:1. Commonly these appear as a triplet, quartet and exchange-broadened singlet.
