Q6(a). Lead–acid cell: electrode and cell reactions on discharge
Question
In lead acid storage cell write down the electrode reactions and the total cell reaction during discharging.
Answer in brief
Anode Pb → PbSO₄, cathode PbO₂ → PbSO₄; total Pb + PbO₂ + 2H₂SO₄ → 2PbSO₄ + 2H₂O; E°cell = 2.05 V, ΔG° = −396 kJ mol⁻¹.
